“See power”: Court orders release of Akpi amid Burna Boy and Chiefpriest’s fight

The court held that Darlington’s arrest and incarceration were “a gross violation” of his rights to dignity, liberty, expression, and mobility under Chapter IV of the Nigerian Constitution.

The Federal High Court has ordered the Nigerian police to release popular singer Speed Darlington, commonly known as Akpi, forthwith awaiting the hearing of the substantive matter.

The court further orders Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to act as surety for Akpi.

Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the event in an X post on Monday, emphasising the importance of the court ruling.

He wrote, “The Federal High Court has directed the Nigerian Police to comply with the order to release Speed Darlington immediately pending the hearing of the substantive matter. 

“The court further directs Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to stand as surety to Akpi.”
