SCORENigeria Top 5: Who is better than Ademola Lookman now?

The only African nominee for the 2024 Ballon d’Or Ademola Lookman was again outstanding for Italian club Atalanta in a big win at Serie A leaders Napoli to prove there is currently no better player from Africa than the Super Eagles forward.

5.Nathan Tella

The Super Eagles winger made the most of his bit role at Bundesliga double champions Bayer Leverkusen by delivering a wonderful assist in a 3-0 win over Elversberg in the DFB Pokal, the German Cup. The former Southampton ace must continue to produce such spirited displays to get more game time at Leverkusen.

4.Cyriel Dessers

The striker is back to scoring ways after going without a goal for eight games. He drew Rangers level in the 49th minute at Motherwell for his team to go on to score the winning goal and qualify for the Scottish League Cup final. Dessers thus made up for a first-half miss. He has now scored seven goals and made two assists this season for the Scottish giants. Rangers can therefore now hope to successfully defend their League Cup title.

3.Victor Osimhen

In Monday night action, Osimhen scored in three straight league games and it proved to be the winning goal. He headed home a perfect cross by Gabriel Sara inside the box to double the lead of hosts Galatasaray in the 67th minute against Istanbul rivals Besiktas. The striker has now netted four goals in the league since his shock January loan transfer from Napoli.‘Gala’ thus consolidated top spot in the Turkish Super Lig with 28 points from 10 matches, five points clear of closest rivals Fenerbache.

Osimhen – Four goals in league with Galatasaray

2.Ola Aina

The Super Eagles defender does not often score goals, but when he does, they are often goals that get tongues wagging. A year after he scored in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Ola Aina conjured a super strike for Nottingham Forest to smash past West Ham 3-0 to shoot them to third place in the Premier League. For a team who are often at the other end of the standings, this is a remarkable showing after they recorded their third straight win of the Premier League.

1.Ademola Lookman

‘Mola’ was again unplayable for Atalanta to beat Serie A table toppers Napoli 3-0. He scored twice to be named Man of the Match. He was also Man of the Match in a 6-1 drubbing of Verona after he netted a brace and provided two assists. He is in a class of his own as he is poised to be named the best African player of 2024 next month. The 27-year-old forward has now scored six goals in eight appearances in Serie A this season. Atalanta, who fought hard to keep Ademola Lookman in the summer transfer window, are the biggest beneficiaries of his awesome form as they have now climbed to third in the standings with 22 points from 11 matches, three points behind leaders Napoli.
