SCORENigeria Top 5: Super Eagles fly high and high across Europe

The Super Eagles, from Calvin Bassey to Cyriel Dessers, are really hitting top form leading up to must-win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.

5.Cyriel Dessers

The Super Eagles striker helped himself to three goals in the wake of the dismissal of Rangers coach Philippe Clement.  He first inspired a comeback win over Kilmarnock with a brace in midweek, before he also hit target in his team’s 2-1 home loss to Motherwell. Dessers has now fired 11 goals in 26 appearances in the league this season. However, it is now a tall order for Rangers to catch up with leaders and defending champions Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premier League as they are 16 points adrift of their bitter rivals.

Osimhen – 16 goals in the Turkish Super Lig and counting

4.Victor Osimhen

Osimhen scored twice for Galatasaray to draw 3-3 in an Istanbul Derby with Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig. He has now banged 16 goals in the top league. However, the thrilling draw at Kasimpasa proved to be two dropped points for the defending champions after closest rivals Fenerbache trounced Antalyaspor 3-0 to now go just four points behind. Gala will need more goals for Osimhen for them to stay on track for a third straight championship.

3.Sadiq Umar

The Super Eagles striker scored twice including the all-important equaliser for Valencia to draw 3-3 with home team Osasuna Sunday night. His goal that gave his team a result on the road was a bit special – a stunning backheel strike. He has now scored four goals in all competitions for his new club, who are now just goals’ difference away from safety.

2.Nathan Tella

The winger, who has also been capped by the Super Eagles, is playing a more prominent role at Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen this season after he opened scoring in a dominant 4-1 win at Entracht Frankfurt. It was his second goal in the German top league as Leverkusen   continue to tag behind leaders Bayern Munich in the title race. They remain eight points adrift of Bayern.

Tella flying joy

1.Calvin Bassey

The Super Eagles defender loves to score against Manchester United it seems and he was one of the unlikely heroes when Fulham dumped ‘The Red Devils’ out of the FA Cup on penalties to reach the last-eight of the cup competition. He opened scoring with a header at Old Trafford for his London club to go on to send packing the cup holders in the Round of 16 4-3 on penalties after scores stood at 1-1 even after extra-time. It was a sensational result for Bassey and Fulham and the reward is a quarterfinal clash against fellow Londoners Crystal Palace
