SCORENigeria Top 5: Hat-trick hero Osimhen leads Super Eagles new and old boys to the top

Victor Osimhen was the headline act as Super Eagles new boys Igho Ogbu and Tolu Arokodare shone for their clubs leading up to Friday’s must-win 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Kigali.

5.Igho Ogbu

How do you celebrate your call-up to the Super Eagles? For big defender Igho Ogbu, it is to score a goal and be named Man of the Match for Slavia Praha to record a comfortable 3-0 home win over Jablonec in the Czech top league. The former Lillestrom star posted a huge display in this victory for his club to sprint 10 points clear of nearest rivals Sparta in the championship race.

4.David Okereke

The former Club Brugge is enjoying his football again as he fired his seventh goal in the Turkish Super Lig for Gaziantep FK to pip Kayserispor 1-0. The former Nigeria U23 forward has previously played in Italy and Belgium. It was a third straight win for Gaziantep, who have now shot to sixth position with 38 points from 28 matches. They are now six points outside the bracket for a UEFA Conference League spot.

3.Moses Simon

The Super Eagles winger dispelled injury fears by providing the assist via a cross from the left for FC Nantes to beat Lille 1-0 to ease their relegation troubles. It was his eighth assists of the season and the Super Eagles will be hoping the hard working player brings such form for the crunch World Cup ties against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

2.Tolu Arokodare

Newly called up Super Eagles striker Arokodare finished the regular season in Belgium as the Goal King with 17 points after he scored for Genk to beat Union St.Gilloise 2-1 at home. The reward for his goals is a deserved invitation to the Super Eagles for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.  He will most likely be a cover for the Osimhen and Victor Boniface for these matches, but it will be an experience that bodes well for the 24-year-old striker.

1.Victor Osimhen

He fired his first hat-trick for Galatasaray against Antalyaspor to shoot to the top of the goals’ race in the Turkish Super Lig. He has now netted 20 goals and Galatasaray are nine points clear of closest rivals Fenerbache at the top of the standings. His confidence is sky high going into the international break. The focus now is for ‘Gala’ to win a third straight championship and that has explained why the Super Eagles striker turned down top clubs like Manchester United as well as a life-changing 40 Million Euros-a-year salary from Saudi Arabia.
