A video recently shared by Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Sarah Martins, on Instagram has sparked mixed reactions.
The footage captures a man aggressively disciplining his son for failing an exam.

In the video, the father can be seen using a belt to flog the boy repeatedly and striking him with his hands, showing visible anger and frustration.
The boy, appearing visibly shaken and helpless, tried to shield himself from the blows while crying.
As the man continued his harsh punishment, a woman presumed to be the boy’s mother is heard in the background attempting to intervene.
She urged the father to take it easy, stating that the method he was using was too extreme and not appropriate for correcting a child. Despite her caution, the man continued his aggressive outburst, seemingly unmoved by her pleas.
Sarah Martins’ stance
Sarah Martins, who posted the video, expressed deep concern over the father’s actions and criticised the mother for seemingly allowing such treatment.
She questioned how a parent could watch their child being beaten over academic failure without doing more to stop it.
In her post, she advocated for a more thoughtful and emotionally supportive approach to parenting, especially when children struggle academically.
She emphasised the importance of understanding the root causes of a child’s distractions or poor performance, including emotional struggles, rather than resorting to intense disciplinary action.
The movie star further reminded parents that academic excellence does not always equate to future success.

And how on earth is a mother comfortably watching her husband almost beating their son to a pulp just because he failed an exam 😡😡
In as much as is not easy to raise money in paying school fees and co, but there are better ways to caution a child especially when he’s distracted with his studies.
Sit him down and have a talk with him!Find out if he’s emotionally stable and why he’s academically distracted.
