Rohr picks Super Eagles destroyers Steve Mounie, Dossou for Uyo rematch

Captain Steve Mounie and fellow striker Jodel Dossou, who scored the goals that destroyed the Super Eagles in June, have again been named by coach Gernot Rohr in next month’s rematch.

Dossou drew The Cheetahs of Benin in the 37th minute after Raphael Onyedika opened scoring for Nigeria in a 2016 World Cup qualifier in Abidjan, before Mounie grabbed the famous match winner in first half stoppage time.

Former Super Eagles coach today announced a 25-man squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Super Eagles on September 7 in Uyo and Libya three days later.

There are no major changes to the squad with veteran goalkeeper Saturnin Allagbe, England-based defender Cedric Hountondji and enterprising midfielder Junior Olaitan selected.

Lokomotiv Sofia striker Steve Traore has been recalled after he last featured for his country in November 2023.
