Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has expressed confidence his team Benin can again upset their more illustrious Nigerian opponents in next month’s 2025 AFCON qualifier in Uyo.
Rohr led his new team to record a famous 2-1 win over Nigeria in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in June.
“It’s another rematch against Nigeria. It will be three more games with them [including the upcoming return match, counting for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers],” he said.
“It’s a rematch against a very good team. But we have gained confidence and we know we can beat them.”
In the meantime, The Cheetahs of Benin have recalled Lokomotiv Sofia striker Steve Traore for the game against the Super Eagles.
Traore last featured for his country in November 2023.
Gernot Rohr is expected later today to announce his full squad for the September 7 clash in Uyo.
