Rivers United suffer first loss of season, Ahmed Musa late match winner for Kano Pillars

Ikorodu City hammered Rivers United a huge blow, Ahmed Musa’s late winner lifted Kano Pillars, while coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s Heartland FC climbed out of the relegation zone today.

Everything with a beginning has an end they say, and that was such today for Rivers United, as they relinquished their unbeaten status to newly promoted side, Ikorodu City.

‘The Oga Boys’ ensured that Finidi’s Pride of Rivers dropped to second as goals by Rivio Ayemwenre and Ayomide Cole took hold of the game inside five minutes to send Rivers United to second in the standings.

However, El Kanemi Warriors held on to their unbeaten run as they grabbed a 1-0 win over Katsina United, through Ibrahim Mustapha’s goal in the day’s early kick-off.

Ahmed Musa was once again the hero, returning to scoring ways as his late winner ensured Kano Pillars claimed the three points against Plateau United.

Remo Stars drew level on points with Rivers United and climbed top of the table after Michael Ibe’s early goal in the second half handed coach Daniel Amokachi another defeat with Lobi.

Niger Tornadoes got only their first home win of the NPFL, as they compounded Shooting Stars’ away woes courtesy of 2-0 victory.

It was a first away win in 30 games for Bendel Insurance as they pipped Kennedy Boboye’s Sunshine Stars 2-1 in Ijebu.

Heartland left the relegation places for the first time this season when they ran out 2-0 winners away at Abia Warriors.

Akwa United got only their secondwin of the NPFL 2024/2025 campaign after an Emmanuel Ogbole’s 66nd minute penalty gave ‘The Promise Keepers’ a 2-1 win over Kwara United.

Ladan Bosso’s Bayelsa United held on strong as they got a 1-1 draw with Enyimba, taking them to 10 points this season.

Enugu Rangers recorded a 2-0 win over Nasarawa United at The Cathedral courtesy of a brace from Godwin Obaje, to take them closer to the top spots.
