Recent gas explosion, five injured, houses damaged

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa said yesterday that five people were injured in a gas explosion in Babura Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the NSCDC Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse, said shops and houses were damaged in the blast.

Police spokesman Lawan Shiisu said 17 shops and five houses were damaged.

Monday at about 9pm after security operatives on stop-and search in the area flagged down a truck conveying 25 gas cylinders.

He claimed that the driver of the truck refused to stop and was chased after by the operatives, resulting in one of the cylinders falling off the truck and catching fire immediately.

In Lagos, a fallen gas tanker in the Isolo area of the metropolis has been cleared by emergency workers.

The tanker reportedly skidded off the road and fell on its side on Monday night at Peter Agha Road near the Memorial Arcade, where victims of the ordnance explosion in 2021 were buried in a mass grave.

The Nation learnt that firemen and other emergency workers have evacuated the fallen vehicle from the scene, with no casualties or injuries to anyone.
