Papa Daniel, Kayode Bankole NPFL quota in Super Eagles

The inclusion of Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel and Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole in the Super Eagles final squad for must-win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe is in keeping with the contract coach Eric Chelle signed with the NFF.

A top official told SCORENigeria: “The contract the coach signed with the NFF in January clearly stipulated that at least two players from the local league are named in the Super Eagles final squad.”

This quota system, the official further explained, is to give the players in the domestic league a sense of belonging as previous coaches have preferred to overlook them.

Some have criticised this quota system, insisting only the best players wherever they are playing be invited by the Super Eagles.
