Osimhen: Transfer to Galatasaray easy decision

Victor Osimhen is brimming with excitement after he finally broke free of Napoli and the prospect of staying out of football for four months.

He said is now looking forward to doing his best in Turkey after a “easy” decision to join Galatasaray.

“When I heard about Galatasaray’s interest, it was an easy decision for me. I knew how big Galatasaray was, how much of a family it felt like. It has incredible fans,” he said in his first interview after he completed his sensational transfer

“Henry Onyekuru is my friend. He played for Galatasaray. He told me how great the club, the fans and the people here are.

“So it was an easy decision for me. When I landed at the airport, the fans welcomed me with such excitement, and I was very happy about that. Such things are important for a player.

“I want to do everything I can for them. I am eagerly waiting for this project. I am very excited.”

He is also excited to be reunited with former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens;

“Dries Mertens was always with me when I went to Italy. He was like a big brother to me. He is someone I respect very much, I am very excited to be his teammate again. I am looking forward to meeting my teammates as soon as possible,” he said.

“I was already watching Galatasaray matches. I was following how Mertens was playing since he came here. I was following how he was developing as a person and as a player.

“Their interaction with the fans when they score goals and win matches is also exciting. Now I hope that our fans will support me after every goal. I am waiting with excitement.”

He continued: “Greetings Galatasaray fans. Osimhen is here. Thank you very much for welcoming me at the airport. It was a wonderful welcome. I will do everything I can and dedicate myself to you.”

Galatasaray’s President Dursun Aydın Özbekh also spoke well on the importance of bringing Osimhen into Turkish football, saying he will be instrumental in their quest for stability in Europe.

“Victor is a very important transfer for Galatasaray and Turkish sports. Especially in our struggle in Europe and our goal of becoming the fifth star in Turkey,” he said.

“Galatasaray have very high expectations from him. I am sure he will meet these expectations.

“As a Galatasaray fan, having such world-star footballers in our club pleases me, the board of directors and Galatasaray fans a lot. I wish him success.

“Hopefully, he will make a great contribution in our quest this year.”

Osimhen’s first game for Galatasaray would most likely be against Gaziantep on September 17 after the international break.
