The Flying Eagles plan to be strengthened with call-ups extended to several NPFL stars as the U20s have struggled to impress with mainly players from academies.
The Flying Eagles under new coach Aliyu Zubairu has posted a mixed bag of results since they opened training camp in Abuja.
They beat non-league club Water FC of Abuja by a lone goal only to lose to Mailantarki FC by the same scoreline.
“The coach is still screening and players from the NPFL will soon join the team,” a team official disclosed.
“Their experience will come in handy as the coach continues to build his team.”
The coach has also said several overseas-based pros will be drafted to the team.
The WAFU B U20 qualifying tournament will kick off on October 17 in Lome, Togo.
The Flying Eagles are drawn in a tough-looking Group B along with Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
The U20 AFCON will be hosted by South Africa in January 2025, while the U20 World Cup will be staged by Chile thereafter.
