NPFL Roundup: Rivers United back on top of NPFL

Rivers United are back on top of the NPFL table after they beat Shooting Stars 2-0 and Remo Stars fell 3-1 at Plateau United today.

Rivers United led by former Super Eagles coach Finidi George now have 17 points from seven matches, while Remo Stars dropped in the standings with 15 points.

Port Harcourt club Rivers United had to wait till the second half before they broke the stalemate through Aniekeme Okon in the 51st minute.

Ndifreke Effiong then came off the bench to make the game safe for the home side on 65 minutes.

Shooting Stars were reduced to 10 men when Alex Aghahowa was sent off soon after the opening goal.

Bayelsa United are now in danger of being sucked into the relegation zone after they were thrashed 3-0 at Bendel Insurance.

Katsina United pipped visiting Akwa United 1-0, while relegation battlers Heartland FC and Ikorodu City drew 1-1 in Owerri.

Ikorodu played the last 10 minutes a man short after Toyeeb Aiyigbe received a second booking.
