Heartland under coach Emmanuel Amuneke have shot into the Top 10 in the NPFL after they defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0, while Rivers United suffered their second loss of the season at home today.
Heartland, who have most of this campaign languished in the relegation zone, recorded their second straight win courtesy of an eighth minute strike by Christian Nkwo.
They are now ninth on the table with 15 points from 11 matches.
Rivers United, on the other hand, who only suffered their first loss this season at Ikorodu City, have continued to go down hill after they fell 1-0 to visiting Bayelsa United.
Bayelsa United led by coach Ladan Bosso have responded brilliantly to a two-match ultimatum.
Rivers United, who are handled by coach Finidi George, remain in second place with 21 points after leaders Remo Stars and third-placed Enyimba cancelled themselves out with a goalless draw in Aba.
Remo Stars remain top on 22 points, while Enyimba maintained third place with 19 points.
Promoted Ikorodu City continued to surprise after they conjured a 2-1 at Katsina United.
The Lagos club are now 11th in the standings and two points clear of the drop zone.
Niger Tornadoes are now fourth on the table with 17 points after a 1-0 home win over struggling Akwa United, while hosts Plateau United and defending champions Enugu Rangers played out a scoreless draw in Jos.
Ten-man Kwara United won 1-0 at Nasarawa United.
