In this role, you’ll play a vital role in providing primary healthcare services to students at DUT. You’ll be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Delivering primary healthcare services: This includes diagnosing and treating minor illnesses, injuries, and common health concerns faced by students.
  • Promoting student health: You’ll develop and implement health promotion initiatives to educate students on healthy living habits and preventative care.
  • HIV/AIDS services: You’ll be responsible for providing a comprehensive range of HIV/AIDS services to students, including prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), partner notification and testing (PICT), antiretroviral treatment (ART), and training for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
  • Clinic management: You’ll maintain accurate clinic statistics and report on trends to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the health services offered.
  • Teamwork: You’ll collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure students receive the best possible care.

What you’ll need:

  • Nursing Qualifications: You’ll need a Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery and Community Nursing Science, or a similar integrated diploma qualification. Additional courses in General, Midwifery, Psychiatric, or Community nursing are also a plus.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a healthcare professional is required.
  • Knowledge: You’ll need a good understanding of:
    • Nursing Professions Acts and Regulations to ensure you’re practicing within legal guidelines.
    • Primary Health Care principles and practices to provide students with comprehensive care.
    • Specialist Admin. System ITS (although training may be provided)
  • Special Requirements:
    • A valid driver’s license is necessary as you may be expected to work at different DUT campuses within Durban.
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel is essential for maintaining records and reports.
    • A range of additional certificates related to specific healthcare areas are highly desirable, including:
      • STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) treatment certificate
      • Family planning certificate with Implanon insertion/removal and intra uterine device training
      • HIV Counselling and Testing certification
      • Gender Based Violence certificate
      • Sexual Harassment training certificate
