Enugu Rangers may have barely advanced to the next round of the CAF Champions League, but coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has been left concerned by poor finishing of his strikers.
Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Comoros champions US Zilimadjou Friday, but go through 2-1 on aggregate having won the first leg 1-0 last week.
“The strikers were jittery, we couldn’t convert our chances again,” lamented Ilechukwu.
“That’s not in our blood. I am worried at our rate of converting chances but I am optimistic of getting over this challenge before the next window for new registration.
“We are missing (Godwin) Obaje and our captain Kalu Nweke, who has left for Enyimba.
“We need more games to reach the standard of last season.”
Rangers will now face either St. Louis F.C of Seychelles or Sagrada Esperanca F.C of Angola with the Angolan side enjoying a 1-0 lead from the first leg played in Seychelles.
Ilechukwu declared his priority is qualification to the money-spinning group stage of the continental competition.
“I want to get into the group stage of the Champions League, that’s what I have been fighting for,” he said.
“I am not thinking of the NPFL this season.”
