More Super Eagles stars vote Ademola Lookman to succeed Osimhen as CAF Player of Year

More Super Eagles stars have joined 1997 CAF Player of the Year Victor Ikpeba in rooting for Ademola Lookman to succeed Victor Osimhen as Africa’s best player next month in Morocco.

Ademola Lookman, who was the only African nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, and William Ekong have made the 10-man short list for the CAF Player of the Year gong.

Ademola Lookman, 27, scored a historic hat-trick in May for Atalanta to win the UEFA Europa League.

He also shone at the 2023 AFCON in February when the Super Eagles reached the championship final in 10 years.

Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has already handed the top CAF individual accolade to the Atalanta forward.

“The CAF Award is his. I will be disappointed if it were otherwise,” he said.

“He’s an amazing player, who has made remarkable progress, working very hard and very, very disciplined.

“He’s the best in Africa because he did incredibly well this past season.”

Ademola Lookman also has the vote of ex-Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa.

“He has been consistent and has been giving 120% for both club and country to win this award,” said ‘Agha-wonder’.

“The little man is a good player. He has given his all and it is now for him to be recognised by CAF for what he has been doing,” added former Super Eagles defender Mobi Oparaku.

The CAF Awards ceremony will be staged on December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.
