On-form Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has declared he wishes to be back as the Super Eagles No 1 goalkeeper.
Okoye was Nigeria No 1 for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, but his howler against Tunisia that knocked the Super Eagles out of the tournament has since brought other goalkeepers to the fore.
Stanley Nwabali has been the Super Eagles first-choice in goal since the 2023 AFCON earlier this year.
Maduka Okoye has now said he wishes to reclaim the No 1 jersey.
“Yeah of course this is what I want, but Stanley (Nwabali) set a high point with a great AFCON, so I’m just patiently waiting, and trying to do my best in training and impress the staff as much as possible,” he told Football Temple
This week, Okoye has shone in Super Eagles training in Uyo.
He has cemented his place at Udinese after his saves ensured they avoided relegation last season.
He has kept his place in the starting XI of the Serie A club this season as they are now front runners of the top league in Italy
