Lawyer Responds to May Edochie’s Cease-and-Desist Letter, N1 Billion Demand: “I Give Her One Week”

  • May Edochie’s ex-lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, has responded to the cease-and-desist letter she issued against him
  • Emeka Ugwuonye also addressed the viral claim on social media that May Edochie had sued him in court
  • The lawyer, who issued a one-week ultimatum to May Edochie, also shared how posting the cease-and-desist letter had subjected him to a cyber attack

Emeka Ugwuonye, the former lawyer to influencer and upcoming actress May Edochie, has finally broken his silence following the cease-and-desist letter she issued against him.

TheTalk.NG recalls reporting that May, through her new legal representatives, Graylaw Partners, issued a cease-and-desist notice to her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, and US-based Yinka Theisen, the ex-fiancée of Yul’s brother, Linc Edochie.

The move followed what May described as months of alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and online defamation. They demanded a public apology and full retraction on every platform where the alleged defamatory statements appeared, and financial compensation, with ₦1 billion expected from Ugwuonye.

Reacting to the legal moves against him, Emeka, in a series of posts via his Facebook page, expressed pity for May Edochie as he queried who was putting her through the mess.

“I’m confused about the situation. Two weeks ago, I received a letter from a lawyer who introduced her firm as representing Queen May. I noticed the letter was sent to an address I left four years ago, so I promptly informed her of the mistake. I explained that since May did not know me at my former address, it was unlikely that my address had come from her. I provided the lawyer with my current address and asked her to send me a corrected letter, which I expected to receive last week,” he said.

Emeka disclosed that after receiving the corrected letter from the lawyer, he realised May hadn’t actually sued him, as opposed to the rumours on social media.

“Consequently, I posted an update clarifying that May had not sued me. However, later yesterday afternoon, I was informed by several people that May had indeed posted the lawsuit on her Instagram account. I was taken aback. Had she sued me or hadn’t she? As more people insisted she had posted the lawsuit, I assumed it was true and made a subsequent post affirming that she had sued me. When I returned home last night and took the time to review May’s Instagram post, which had been forwarded to me, I was shocked to discover she had posted the attempted letter of two weeks ago—not the corrected version. I’ve attached both letters for reference; you can see the dates. Why would she post an outdated letter on the same day I received the corrected one? It suggests she’s confused and stressed, which I find unfortunate. I genuinely wish I could do something to help her. Despite our disagreement, I hate to see her in this state – so much confusion,” he said.

Emeka claimed that by sharing the letter on her page, May subjected him to attack and bullying, which could provide grounds for him to sue her for damages. He, however, stated that he wouldn’t take legal action against May unless she sued him first.

“By the way, if May does decide to sue me, it will be a victory for Yul and Judy, as she will need to shift her attention from them to focus on me. Even Yinka will likely celebrate this, as May and her supporters will have to redirect their focus towards me instead,” he said.

In another Facebook post, Emeka stated that he gave May Edochie one week to serve him with the lawsuit.

“Queen May just showed her destructive nature. She set her vile mob on me, but she made a mistake. I give her one week to serve me with the lawsuit,” he wrote.

In related news, TheTalk.NG reported that May Edochie’s former lawyer was dragged to a shrine after a man filed a complaint.

May’s lawyer clarifies co-parenting arrangement

TheTalk.NG previously reported that Emeka Ugwuonye clarified the co-parenting relationship between May Edochie and her estranged husband, Yul Edochie.

According to Emeka, since they share children, co-parenting was not only expected but required. He disclosed that Yul was contributing financially and had full access to the children.
