Intercontinental Derby: Osimhen 1 Jose Mourinho 0

Victor Osimhen won his first ‘Intercontinental Derby’ with Galatasaray, while Fenerbache coach Jose Mourinho lost his.

Both Osimhen and Mourinho are regarded as the biggest stars in Turkey today.

Napoli loanee Osimhen has yet to score for ‘Gala’, but he provided a great assist with the chest for Dries Mertens to score the team’s second goal in a 3-1 win at Fenerbache Saturday night.

It was his second straight assist since September 2019, according to Opta.

The Super Eagles striker will later take to Instagram to appreciate the fans of his new club, who he said are very much part of the victory.

“Your cheers and chants gave us the strength to push through,” he posted.

“You’re not just fans in the stands – you’re a huge part of this team.

“Thank you for believing in your team.

“We march on together!!!”

Mourinho, on the other hand, who had started the build-up to this Istanbul Derby by labeling Osimhen as a diver, was visibly shattered by the home defeat.

He did not attend the post-match press conference and rather spoke at a flash interview.

“It will be seen as a stupid answer, but they won because they scored more goals than us,” he said.

“We started the game quickly, we dominated, but it didn’t matter. We risked everything after 3-1, but it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter how many times we missed. We only scored from the penalty spot. They won because they scored more goals.”

Mourinho was not spared trolling on social media with even the Galatsaray official handle describing him not as ‘The Special One’, but as ‘The Crying One’.

Reigning champions ‘Gala’ are now five points clear of their fierce city rivals at the top of the Turkish Super Lig after six rounds of matches.
