Former international Victor Ikpeba has attributed the Super Eagles resurgence to caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen.
Eguavoen took over the Super Eagles in September and they are now on the verge of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON after a laboured 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
A draw tonight with Benin in Abidjan will seal their qualification to Morocco 2025.
“There’s now hunger, a new belief and commitment and credit must go to Eguavoen,” Ikpeba said on Monday Night Football on SuperSport TV.
“They are determined to make Nigerians proud again.”
Will Eguavoen be interested in taking up the Super Eagles job on a permanent basis?
“He has a decision to make after the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. It’s his decision and that of the NFF,” Ikpeba said.
Former African Footballer of the Year Ikpeba has also backed the Super Eagles to beat Benin tonight in Abidjan to book their flight to Morocco in 2025 December.
“You must respect Benin and so this game will be tough,” he said.
“The Eagles have so much talent and should do the job on the day.”
