Tolu Arokodare was a direct replacement at Genk for fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu, but the 23-year-old striker has insisted they are two different players.
Arokodare has had to endure stinging criticisms from a section of the Genk fans causing questions to be asked whether it is because of the high standards Onuachu set in his time at the Belgian club.
Arokodare has now responded to these comparisons.
“Paul Onuachu is a top striker and has achieved great performances at Genk. It is nice that he continues to receive a lot of praise for that,” Arokodare told Het Nieuwsblad
“But I am not Paul Onuachu. I may never surpass him here, who knows, I may score more goals here than him. That is not the point. But I will never do the same, let alone be the same player as Paul.”
Incidentally, Turkish giants Trabzonspor are now hot on the heels of Arokodare after they seem to have given up on their bid to sign Onuachu from Southampton after a successful loan spell with them last season.
