HALFTIME: France 2 Super Falcons 1

The Super Falcons are trailing home team France 2-1 in tonight’s friendly in Angers.

The defence of the nine-time African champions has struggled to keep out France in this entertaining contest.

The opening goal against the Super Falcons was netted by by veteran striker Le Sommer in the 29th minute after a good combination play with Katoto.

Lyon midfielder Amel Majri doubled the home team’s lead on 37 minute from well inside the box.

In stoppage time, Ifeoma Onumonu pulled a goal back for Nigeria off a fast counter attack.

It was Nigeria’s first-ever goal against France at this level.

The Falcons were on the backfoot from the first whistle and were only saved by VAR when Katoto’s seventh minute effort was ruled out for offside.

Captain Chiamaka Nnadozie then made a big save to deny Katoto after 20 minutes and moments later, Jennifer Echegini’shot from outside the box was pushed away for corner by the France goalkeeper.

Nigeria enjoyed a good spell arund this time only for France to open scoring against the run of play.

It has so far been a bright Super Falcons debut for Egypt-based striker Blessing Nkor, who pushed herself about and created some anxious moments for France defence.
