It is goalless between the Flying Eagles and their counterparts from Burkina Faso after half time in this WAFU B U20 AFCON qualifier in Lome, Togo.
Both teams started out nervously with the bigger looking Burkina Faso taking the game to the Flying Eagles early in this period.
Nigeria gradually got into the game, but it was Burkina Faso who came close to opening scores in the 27th minute, but a header inside the box missed the mark not by much.
Nigeria’s leftback Kenneth Igboke then threatened the other goal in the 31st minute but his shot from inside the goal area was deflected for a corner.
Flying Eagles goalkeeper Nathanial Nwosu pulled up a big save in the 34th minute when Burkina Faso got behind the Nigerian defence.
It was the biggest chance of the first half, but the Junior Stallions failed to make the most of it.
The Flying Eagles will have to do a lot more going forward after the break if they plan to win this crucial opening group game.
The strike force of Bidemi Amole, Arierhi Kparobo and Clinton Japhta has so far been contained by Burkina Faso.
Flying Eagles Starting XI (4-3-3) vs Burkina Faso: Nathaniel Nwosu – Kenneth Igboke, Adamu Maigari, Daniel Bameyi (Captain), Haruna Aliyu – Raphael Oyebanjo, Israel Ayuma, Nasiru Salihu – Bidemi Amole, Arierhi Kparobo, Clinton Jephta
