Golden Eaglets captain Simon Cletus leads new Flying Eagles to Abidjan

Golden Eaglets skipper Simon Cletus is one of several new players who made the Flying Eagles squad for a series of friendlies against U20 AFCON Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan.

Central midfielder Cletus led the Eaglets to finish third at last year’s sub-regional U17 AFCON qualifiers in Ghana.

The other player from that same team who made the transition to the U20s is striker Abdulmuiz  Adeleke, who scored twice for the Golden Eaglets to beat hosts Ghana in the third-place final.

Other players yet to be capped by the Flying Eagles on the trip to Abidjan are goalkeeper Abubakar Rufai, Emmanuel Okoro, Haruna Aliyu, Babatunde Jimoh Faruq, Stephen Jalomi, Kingsley Matthew, Gbolahan Ajisafe, Anthony Ezekiel, Shafiu Adamu Duguri and Ayomide Muftau.

Bidemi Amole, Clinton Japhet, Divine Oliseh, Nasiru Salihu, goalkeeper Ifeanyi Hrcourt and captain Daniel Bameyi featured at the WAFU B U20 AFCON qualifiers last year in Togo.

The Flying Eagles will first tackle their Ivorian counterparts tomorrow before a rematch Friday.

Kick-off time is 4.30pm in Nigeria.
