SCORENigeria has it on good authority that Janne Andersson, who will soon be appointed as new Super Eagles coach, will not be the man in charge of the team’s opening 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
The Super Eagles welcome Benin to Uyo on September 7 before they fly out to Rwanda for a second 2025 qualifier three days later.
A top source has now informed only SCORENigeria that the former Sweden coach has concluded negotiations with the NFF leadership, but he will be held back by a contractual obligation with a media company.
However, this contract will run out in September to allow him take full charge of the Super Eagles for the remaining AFCON qualifiers in October and November.
In his absence, SCORENigeria has gathered that his two assistant coaches from Sweden along with NFF technical director Augustine Eguavoen will call the shots for the matches against Benin and Rwanda next month.
The new backroom staff will also include some local coaches.
Fidelis Ilechukwu of Enugu Rangers and Ladan Bosso from Bayelsa United are among the coaches being considered.
