SCORENigeria can exclusively reveal that former coach of Sweden Jan Olof ‘Janne’ Andersson will be the long-awaited new coach of the Super Eagles.
He is 61 years old and was coach of Sweden between 2016 and 2023.
He qualified Sweden to the 2018 World Cup as well as the 2020 Euros, but failed to qualify them for the 2022 World Cup as well as the 2024 Euros.
He has no working experience in Africa.
His choice confirms another SCORENigeria Exclusive that the NFF have made a fresh choice for the Super Eagles top post outside the four previously shortlisted coaches – Herve Renard, Eric Chelle, Tom Saintfiet and Steve McClaren.
The last Swede to coach the Super Eagles was Lars Lagerback, who took charge of the country’s team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where we failed to go past the first round of the tournament.
Another Swede coach, Thomas Denerby, was also in charge of the Super Falcons to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
