EXCLUSIVE: Government agrees to pay new Super Eagles coach

Besides the NFF securing a sponsor to offset the salaries of a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles, the Federal Government has now formally agreed to pay for the incoming coach.

An official confirmed this development to SCORENigeria.

“Money is no longer the problem of the NFF as it concerns the payment of the salary of the new Super Eagles coach as they have got a formal guarantee from the Presidency that this will be taken care of by the Government,” he informed.

Sports Minister John Enoh had previously warned that paying the salaries of a foreign coach was the responsibility of the NFF.

Who and how to pay the new foreign coach was always a Herculean task for the often cash-strapped NFF.

The initial budget of the NFF for a new coach was put at between $40,000 and $50,000, SCORENigeria understands

However, with this massive financial boost offered by the FGN, the NFF can increase this budget.

That may well explain why despite assurances from the NFF technical director Augustine Eguavoen that a new coach for the Super Eagles will be named before this weekend.

Based on negotiations, former Sweden coach Janne Andersson remains the front runner for the Super Eagles top post.
