Eric Chelle: I took pay cut to prove something with Super Eagles

Eric Chelle has revealed he took a pay cut to become the coach of the Super Eagles because he believes he can achieve something with this “big team”.

“When I came to Nigeria, I didn’t come here because of money. I was earning more in my last job. I came to Nigeria because this is a very big team and I want to prove something, to achieve something. I came here for the challenge. Nothing has changed about that,” he told journalist Osasu Obayiuwana in an interview

Both Eric Chelle and Super Eagles are walking a tight rope in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Next month they welcome Rwanda to Uyo, before another decisive clash in South Africa.

The job of the coach is on the line, but he remains unfazed.

“I know, quite well, that I can be fired after one match. This is the life in football,” he said.

“But if they decide to do that, they must be prepared to pay up the remainder of my contract.”
