A 24-year-old survivor who was at the Enyobeni Tavern explained to TimesLive that one of the victims who passed away cried out to her for help.

“One of those who died there cried for help as I was rushing outside, saying ‘Sisi, please help me, I’m dying,’” the survivor said.

“I could see she was drawing her last breath. She was lying down and people were all over her. It was like a horror movie. People were struggling to breathe because they [tavern staff] had sprayed something”.

“Luckily my friends and I managed to escape unharmed.”

ENYOBENI PERFORMER OUTRAGED

Brian Mapasa, who was performing at Enyobeni tavern, took to Facebook on 27 June claiming that some were suffocating and others began collapsing.

“It was very hard to breathe in that small space by the door with pepper spray even, I got pulled out losing my breath mistake [because] Enyobeni [did] not have enough security by the door,” wrote Mapasa.

“Imagine two people stopping 100s of people pushing back and forth cause some wanted to come in by force cause some wanted to come in by force while others wanted to get our ASAP due to pepper spray.”

MZANSI IS STILL OUTRAGED

Taking to Twitter, tweeps are still expressing their outrage towards the mass death of minors in East London.

“We can blame the owner but at the end of the day, these kids’ parents must take full responsibility, they too need to be charged for negligence. How on earth do you sleep peacefully knowing exactly that your 13/14-year-old at the shebeen,” wrote one tweep.

“Enyobeni incident will repeat itself somewhere as long as South African parents still need to be babysitter,” wrote another tweep.

“This situation is sad, everyone needs to be [blamed] for such a terrible event. Parents, police and the tavern owner!!”

There are things we did as teens, that our parents didn’t know of. This is not the time to pretend we are better at parenting. Kids be doing shit behind your back even when you are strict. They will sneak out, fall pregnant, do drugs, etc.

Kids choose, ultimately Twitter.com/hashtag/EnyobeniTavern?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>#EnyobeniTavern
