Emmanuel Ekong has said he is up to the task after new club Malmo signed another striker ahead of the big kick-off in Sweden.
Malmo have added 25-year-old striker Arnor Sigurdsson from English club Blackburn Rovers soon after the signed Ekong from Serie A club Empoli.
The son of former Super Eagles star Prince Ikpe Ekong will now have to do battle with the experienced Iceland international for game time.
Honestly, I don’t think about it like that. It’s always fun with competition, I think it raises everyone to another level,” Ekong told Fotbollskanalen.
“It’s Malmö, Sweden’s biggest club – it’s clear that the best players will want to play here.
“It’s nothing you can think about, you just have to think about yourself.”
He said he has settled in at the Swedish champions.
Good. I’ve come into the team well, got to know the guys on a deeper level. I’m happy so far, I feel like I have a lot more to prove during the matches. It comes with time of course, a “connection” on the field and so on,” he said
“It’s nice to have the coach’s trust. But of course you want to contribute more personally. I know what I can do and I don’t want to stress it out either. The most important thing is the team and winning.”
