Eguavoen should qualify Super Eagles to 2025 AFCON – top club owner Mastoroudes

Owner of the now defunct Leventis United John Mastoroudes has joined those in support that Augustine Eguavoen be retained by the NFF to qualify the Super Eagles to the 2025 AFCON.

Eguavoen was caretaker coach for the Super Eagles opening AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

Nigeria top Group D with four points from two matches after a 3-0 home win over Benin and a goalless draw in Rwanda.

Next month, they battle Libya in a double-header in continuation of the qualifying series.

Mastoroudes spoke in an interview with Eagle7.fm Saturday

“Eguavoen should stay,” demanded Mastouroudes, who served on the Presidential Task Force (PTF) that ensured the Super Eagles qualification to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“It will be fatal to change him now.

“He can qualify the country to the AFCON.

“After qualification, the question would be can he lead them to win the AFCON.”

He added: “If they still go for a foreign coach, Eguavoen will be the right-hand man of this coach.

“He’s not a young boy anymore.”

Mastoroudes has advocated for a big-name foreign coach, who will inspire the Super Eagles to win accolades.
