  • Walter insisted money doesn’t change people but exposes who they truly are, a lesson he says shaped his outlook on life

Nigerian media personality Danny Walter has opened up about his journey with faith, money, and personal struggles.

Speaking to Chude, Walter revealed that he deliberately stepped away from church in 2020–2021, expecting that if his life went downhill,

But his reality shocked many; nothing got worse. Instead, he says he found peace in his decision.

Walter explained:

“I told myself in 2020–2021 that I’m going to stop church for a year. If my life gets worse, I’m okay. But I stopped church and my life didn’t get worse. I don’t have any regrets.”

For Walter, wealth is not a divine stamp of approval but a magnifying glass on one’s real character.

“What money does is, it doesn’t change you, it just brings out the inner you. The you that poverty was hiding,”

He noted that coming from a humble background gave him the urge to prove he had left poverty behind.

He made it clear that unlike many who attribute their success to divine grace, he doesn’t share the same conviction.

He disclosed that at one point, he lost multiple brand deals in less than 24 hours, leaving him stranded and searching for new sources of income.

Then came an even bigger blow, the 2022 Bitcoin crash. Walter admitted he had invested heavily, nearly half a million dollars, only to watch it vanish in one night.

He recalled:

“I was trading with a lot of money, almost $500,000 at the time. And you know, I lost it in one night.

According to him, if he had shared that loss online, many critics would have celebrated it as divine punishment.

Walter also addressed past issues that dragged him into public debates, especially one where his comments were linked to fellow media personality Toke Makinwa.

He clarified that his statements were never directed at her personally but were misinterpreted due to already circulating narratives.

Netizens react to Danny Walter’s interview

TheTalk.NG compiled the reactions of social media users below

@UGOOOTWEETS:

“A lot of people are still going to church & making the money. Stopping or going to church changes nothing.”

@killgotti:

“Life faces everyone differently. You fit try abandon God and you go chop cane. Find what works for you. He won’t tell you what worked for him. Whether it’s being in the right place right time, a unique luck in his hustle. Don’t emulate what you don’t understand.”

@mansamose:

“It means he was going to church for selfish reasons, not because he loves or appreciates God, but because of what he hoped to gain. That’s a very distorted mentality. If you follow God only for what you can get, then you’re not a believer, you’re a user.”
