A Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu ordered two Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests to confirm the paternity of Liam Aloba, the only child of late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, alias Mohbad.
Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga granted the decision while hearing an application submitted by the singer’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, who is attempting to determine whether the youngster is his late son’s biological progeny.

“The court hereby orders that two DNA tests be conducted, one within Nigeria and another in a recognized and accredited hospital outside Nigeria. Both parties or their representatives shall be present when the samples are taken,” Sonuga ruled.
The court also ordered that the tests be conducted in government-approved medical facilities and that tissue or hair samples be collected from the late singer’s remains, which are presently housed at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
The applicant had in his application before the court sought for an order of the court directing the Chief Medical Officer/Chief Pathologist or any other appropriately qualified officer of the Military Hospital Yaba, Lagos, who is in charge of the remains of the late Mohbad presently at the Military Hospital Yaba, Lagos, to remove any tissue/hair or any part of the body of the deceased for the purpose of conducting a DNA test on Liam, at a recognized and accredited government private medical facility within Lagos State or other agreeable hospital outside the state, Punch reports.
The application further requested a court order directing that a DNA test be conducted regarding the paternity of Liam, the purported son of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (the deceased), in a recognised and accredited medical facility outside of Nigeria at the applicant’s expense.
In court papers, Aloba noted that there was still ambiguity about Liam’s paternity, and given the gravity of the situation, the paternity must be determined unequivocally. He further stated that paternity is a live issue in terms of evaluating the respondent’s maintenance responsibilities and the child’s welfare, and that DNA testing is therefore required to avoid further delays and prejudice.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Aloba, represented by Augustine Adegbemi of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., argued that the test was required to clear up any remaining uncertainties and public speculation about the child’s paternity. “There remains uncertainty regarding the paternity of Master Liam Aloba. Given the sensitivity of the matter, it is imperative that this issue be conclusively settled to determine maintenance obligations and ensure the child’s welfare,” he said.
In the application filed under Order 8, Rules 1 & 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and Order 9, Rules 8 & 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, he named Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, the late singer’s widow, as the respondent. Magistrate Sonuga issued the requested order and deferred further hearings until November 11, 2025, with no objections from the respondent’s counsel.

Wunmi shares photo of Mohbad and son
TheTalk.NG earlier reported that Wunmi had remembered her husband by sharing a rare picture of him and their son.
In the post made on her Insta story, Mohbad was sleeping while his son, who was still a baby then, was sitting close to him.
She stated that there were no true words that she ever said and heard, she also added another statement that must have been said by her son.
