Comedian Alibaba Shares Honest Take on Slain US Activist Charlie Kirk, Fuels Fresh Controversy

  • Comedian Alibaba condemned the killing of American activist Charlie Kirk during a live event in Utah
  • The comedian, in an interview, admitted that he felt relieved that the shooter wasn’t Black, Arab, or Muslim
  • Suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, was identified as a former scholarship student from Utah

Nigerian veteran comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has added his voice to the death of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was shot dead on stage at Utah Valley University during a Turning Point USA event, The American Comeback Tour.

Speaking on the tragic incident, Alibaba described Kirk’s killing as senseless and strongly condemned violence of any kind, reports The Vanguard.

But he went further, sharing a perspective that many might not openly admit.

Alibaba said:

“It’s a sad thing that Charlie had to be killed, and I’m totally against the shooting and killing of anyone. That said, when I heard about the shooting… you don’t know the relief I had that it wasn’t a Black guy, not Arab, not Muslim. It would have been bad.”

Authorities later identified the shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah native who had briefly studied at Utah State University on scholarship.

Reports say Robinson came from a conservative, pro-gun family but began distancing himself from his parents’ political views in recent years.

He had reportedly criticized Charlie Kirk for “spreading hate.”

While his official voter registration is inactive and listed as nonpartisan, investigators believe his growing frustration with conservative figures influenced his actions.

The case has already drawn widespread attention in the U.S. and beyond, with conversations focusing on political polarization, gun violence, and the consequences of toxic rhetoric.

Alibaba’s remarks echo similar sentiments to those of Utah governor Spencer Cox, who admitted he had hoped the shooter “wouldn’t be one of us.”

Mercy Chinwo’s husband under fire

TheTalk.NG recalled that Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, husband of award-winning gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, has found himself in the middle of an online backlash over his comment on Charlie Kirk.

Joining the list of mourners, Pastor Blessed took to Instagram to honour the late activist.

He described Kirk as a man of conviction, courage, and dignity who never wavered in his beliefs, regardless of opposition.

He wrote, “One thing I truly admire about Charlie Kirk is his clarity of convictions. Whether you agree with him or not, he never wavers; he boldly stands for what he believes in. That kind of courage is rare and worth honouring. RIP,” he wrote.

In another post, the clergyman called the killing “gruesome and heartbreaking,” adding that no one deserves to die in such a cruel way.

Nathaniel Bassey, Victoria Orenze mourn Charlie Kirk

TheTalk.NG earlier reported that gospel singers Nathaniel Bassey and Victoria Orenze also paid their tributes to the late Kirk.

For Bassey, whose ministry often emphasizes intercession, his post read like a prayer for peace and consolation for the family left behind.

In a lengthy, fiery post, Orenze described Kirk as a “true soldier of Christ” whose death only strengthens the Christian mission.
