Chuba Akpom on a high after Europa League hat-trick

Chuba Akpom was left all excited after he scored thrice for Ajax to beat Polish side Jagiellonia Białystok 4-1 in a UEFA Europa League playoff.

The striker, who has pledged his international future to the Super Eagles, could not hold back his excitement after “playing my best game for Ajax”.

“It’s amazing, I thank God, I thank my team mates, all the staff for all the support. I had my best match in an Ajax shirt today (Thursday) so I’m happy,” Akpom told his the Ajax TV.

“Scoring is what I thrive on, it’s what I love to do, so when it’s not happening it gets frustrating but I’m a very positive and persistent person, so I say thank you to the coach for the trust.”

He spoke of his goals: “The first one was like a big weight off my shoulders and I had to take the penalty because if anyone was also on a hat-trick, I’d have given them.”

He said Ajax will wrap up qualification to the money-spinning group stage of the Europa League at home Thursday.

“We’re a step closer to the Europa League, let’s get the job done on Thursday and carry on into the league,” he declared.

Ajax went down as early as the fifth minute before Akpom restored parity four minutes later.

Milka Godts got the next goal for the Dutch club in the 27th minute, before Akpom did his magic, netting an eight- minute brace to secure his hat-trick and the win for Ajax.
