Caretaker coach Eguavoen wins more support after Super Eagles fly past Benin

Caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen today won more support after he guided the Super Eagles to a convincing 3-0 home win over Benin in a 2025 AFCON qualifier.

The NFF technical director was a last-minute appointment after German coach Bruno Labbadia walked out on the Super Eagles.

This is his fourth time in charge of the Super Eagles and ‘Cerezo’ could not have hoped for to a brighter start as the team avenged a shock 2-1 loss in June to get their qualifying campaign to the 2025 AFCON off the ground.

He has now been credited with the Super Eagles dominant victory.

“Austin Eguavoen has shown he can manage the side brilliantly and technically,” praised Boluwaji Jegede.

“His change of formation and player personnel was superb. The effectiveness was obvious in the second half.

“Massive credit to the technical adviser and the crew (involving NPFL coaches). I love it!”

According to Samuel Alade, “Every country needs an Eguavoen. A man who will not mind stepping in to steady the ship anytime he is called upon.”

“I don’t care about his antecedents with the Super Eagles and I don’t care about what you think about him.

“It is time to give Coach Austin Eguavoen the Super Eagles Job again.

“Top Coach with a superb tactical knowledge,” Ibukun Aluko stated emphatically.

However, even though he was impressed with what Eguavoen’s team showed tonight,  Edison is not convinced he is the man to lead the Super Eagles on a permanent basis.

“I think Eguavoen is a good coach and him with the help of Coach Dan and Fidelis outclassed Rohr today,” Edison told SCORENigeria

“But considering the fact that he was at the helm of affairs when we lost our World Cup playoffs last time out and also considering that we started this new World Cup qualifiers poorly, i am not entirely convinced that he should be the one leading us for the remaining games.”

In his time with the Super Eagles, Eguavoen has recorded 15 wins, three draws, four losses in 22 matches.
