Pastor Ibiyeomie discourages associating with the poor

Ibiyeomie stated that everyone gets angry when a believer is associating with sinners and used the same analogy for the poor.

He said it is okay to help the poor, but wrong for a believer to associate with them. A part of his statement read:

“People were calling me. One or two persons were calling me, saying the internet is on fire. I said what is on fire? I don’t even know what is on fire. I’m not interested. But out of curiosity, I said Holy Spirit, if I’m wrong, tell me and I will never say I’m right when I’m wrong. He was dictating God’s word to me verbatim. He said ‘you are not wrong, you are right.’ I said how? He said listen, and he began to break down scriptures.

“He said I became sin for humanity. True? I said yes. He said you became sin. He said that’s why we must not….He said do you like sin? I said no. He said Christians hate sin? I said yes. He said can you be a friend to a sinner? He said no. He said you can only lead people to Christ but you cannot be a friend to be a friend to a sinner.

“Is that not true? Is that not true? He quoted Bible scriptures for me. And he said ‘don’t sit in the counsel of the ungodly. We says so. Is that not true? If a believer is mixing with sinners, I think you say why is this man mixing with sinners? Don’t you say so? I think you say so? You say why can’t this man lead people to Christ? You say why is this man, why is he mixing with sinners? Everybody gets angry when a believer is mixing with sinners…”

Outrage trails Pastor Ibiyeomie’s preaching

@kelvin_alaneme said:

“This is a very dangerous doctrine. It propagates a disdain for sickness which is normal human phenomena. Telling a Christian not to associate with the sick when Christ preaches otherwise is abhorrent. Shouting “Amen” one million times will not make your illness go away, if you are sick. If this same pastor falls ill, I am sure he would not want people to dissociate themselves from him. Yet, this is what he is propagating. A very dangerous doctrine.”

@Messiwontmiss said:

“Jesus taught compassion for the poor, emphasizing their blessedness and the importance of serving them. In Luke 6:20-21, he said, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.” He also declared his mission to bring good news to the poor in Luke 4:16-19.”

@Jerale9 said:

“Lazarus enter heaven finally. Dude was poor. So he too clear where u and ur congregation go enter finally.”

@Messiwontmiss said:

“Stupid pastors. Suddenly the poor should be avoided now that you are rich. Even Jesus hung out with the poor.”

CAN reacts to Pastor Ibiyeomie’s preaching

Meanwhile, TheTalk.NG previously reported that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had condemned Pastor Ibiyeomie’s preaching that Jesus hates poor people.

During a sermon, Pastor Ibiyeomie had asserted that Christ’s death and resurrection were to free believers from poverty and not only for their salvation.

Reacting to the sermon, Pastor Abel Damina, founder of Power City International Ministry, criticised Ibiyeomie’s interpretation, calling it a distortion of biblical truth.
