In a weekend of only a few Nigerian match winners, ‘Tobi’ Promise David, who chose Canada ahead of playing for the Super Eagles, grabbed the headlines with his game-winning brace to throw wide open the title race in Belgium

4.Rafiu Durosinmi
The big striker is enjoying a fine run in front of goal after he signed off on the regular season with a goal for Viktoria Plzen to beat Dukla Praha 4-2. It was his fifth goal of the league season since he returned from a long-term injury. His club now go into the championship playoffs behind Slavia Praha, but they will have to fend off the pressure from a chasing pack that includes Sparta Praha and Banik Ostrava.
3.Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi
The former Flying Eagles striker fired a brace and made an assist in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Dender in the UEFA Conference League playoffs in Belgium. His club OH Leuven are now fourth in the playoff standings with 23 points from 34 matches, four points behind leaders Sporting Charleroi.
2.Sadiq Umar
The striker has continued to save the blushes of Valencia on loan from Real Sociedad after he came off the bench to score the equaliser Rayo Vallecano. The 28-year-old striker has now scored five goals in 12 appearances in the Spanish top flight. The once-mighty Valencia are now 14th on the La Liga table with 38 points, seven points clear of the relegation zone and with six rounds of matches to the end of the season
1.Promise David
Ironically, the biggest headliner of this past weekend is a striker who dumped Nigeria so as to play for Canada next year at the World Cup – ‘Tobi’ Promise David. The one-time Nigeria U23 international fired a brace for Union St.Gilloise to win 2-1 at Genk and throw wide open the title race in Belgium. Tolu Arokodare, who recently debuted for the Super Eagles, pulled a goal back in stoppage time, but the day belonged to ‘Tobi’. He has now netted 21 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions as his club are now firmly back in contention for the championship. There are now reported interests from clubs in the Premier League and Ligue 1. Was he a big loss for the Super Eagles?
