NPFL Roundup: Remo Stars stay on track for first NPFL crown

Remo Stars tonight continued their march towards a first-ever NPFL championship after they beat Heartland FC 2-0 at home.

They thus remained eight points clear of nearest rivals Rivers United, who won 2-1 at difficult El Kanemi Warriors.

Former Flying Eagles striker Olamilekan Adebayo put home team Remo Stars ahead after 31 minutes, before Samson Olasupo made the game safe with a second goal 10 minutes from time.

Remo Stars now have 57 points from 29 matches.

Rivers United win at El Kanemi has kept the pressure on the league leaders, while Ikorodu City slipped from third place after they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Enyimba at home.

Enugu Rangers 3-0 home victory over Kwara United Saturday pushed them to third position, while Ikorodu City are now fourth by virtue of having an inferior goals difference as both teams are tied on 45 points each.

Sunday Megwo scored his ninth goal of the season and it was also the match winner for Abia Warriors to edge past Bendel Insurance.

The Umuahia club are now fifth in the standings with 44 points.

Heartland loss to Remo Stars has plunged them back into relegation fears.

They are now just a point above the relegation zone with 34 points from 29 matches.

Nasarawa United continued their spirited drive to escape the dreaded drop after they held Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw in Kano, while another relegation-troubled team, Akwa United were 2-0 winners over Shooting Stars to also give them hope of survival.
