Super Eagles World Cup flop shocks South Africa coach

Bafana Bafana of South Africa coach Hugo Broos has admitted he has been surprised the Super Eagles are lagging behind in the qualifying series for the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria are four points behind front runners South Africa, Rwanda and Benin after four rounds of qualifying matches in the race for automatic qualification for next year’s Mundial.

Last June, the Super Eagles forced a 1-1 draw with South Africa in Uyo in continuation of the World Cup qualifiers.

Broos said he expects Nigeria to fight back next month in the qualifiers, while also saying this group is still very wide open.

“I am surprised that Nigeria are four points behind us because they have too much quality,” the experienced Belgian coach said.

“I believe they will come back by the next window (March).

“All the teams in our group are still in the running (to qualify for World Cup).”
