Akpoguma praises Hoffenheim fight back

Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma has praised his club Hoffenheim after they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Stuttgart and gain a precious point in the Bundesliga.

Home team Hoffenheim fell behind in the first half, before Gift Orban restored parity late in the second half.

Akpoguma said it was a deserved point as they fight to stay up in the Bundesliga.

“It was a deserved 1:1. VfB were better in the first half, but in the second half we had more passion and more energy,” he said.

“We earned the goal through good pressing. We even had a chance to win, but the draw is fine.

“We were asleep at 0:1, we need to defend better. Stuttgart have enormous quality in attack. We had a clear plan and implemented it well.

“In the second half we moved the ball a little better. We showed character again and came back after falling behind.

“Every point is important, so I’m satisfied. Now we absolutely have to stop falling behind early, otherwise we’ll always be playing catch-up.”

Hoffenheim are now 14th in the standings with 22 points from 23 matches.
