Ex-Serie A star: I told Osimhen quit Napoli, Ademola Lookman should also leave Atalanta

Former Serie A star Ogenyi Onazi has asked Ademola Lookman to quit Atalanta, just as he had advised Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli.

Ademola Lookman was publicly criticized by Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini after he missed a crucial penalty in a UEFA Champions League clash against Club Brugge.

This has caused reactions with the player himself saying the comments of the coach were disrespectful.

Former Super Eagles captain Onazi played in the Serie A with Lazio and he has joined those asking Ademola Lookman to change clubs because such comments are “incredibly disappointing” and “unacceptable”.

“It is incredibly disappointing to hear such comments from an experienced coach about one of his best players. Disrespecting a young player who has given so much to the team is unacceptable,’ Onazi told SportsBoom

“This player is just not any talent: he is the current African Player of the Year and he consistently gives his all for Atalanta.

“Despite an injury, he came back and helped his team get back into the game. After all, anyone, even the best, can miss a penalty.”

He continued: “Atalanta took a gamble on him during a difficult phase of his career, and he has proven his worth ever since.

“If he hadn’t played well, they probably would have let him go.

“In my opinion, it might be time for him to move on, find a new club and enjoy and enjoy his football elsewhere.”

Onazi said he also gave Osimhen the same advise when helped Napoli win the Scudetto.

“I offered a similar advise to Osimhen after he helped Napoli win the league,” he revealed.

“I told him he had achieved the unthinkable for Napoli and the city, and that he should leave when the ovation was still strong.

“He chose to renew his contract instead, and when things went badly, he stepped up, proving that perhaps my advice had been the best option.”
