El Kanemi Warriors striker Ibrahim Mustapha ‘Yuga’ is now pushing to be the leading scorer in the NPFL after he netted his eighth goal against Abia Warriors at the weekend.
Mustapha, 28, opened scoring as early as the fifth minute for his club to thrash Abia Warriors 3-0 at home.
The experienced striker was Kano Pillars leading scorer last season with 11 goals and he has headed back to El Kanemi nine years after he made his debut for the Maiduguri club.
His tally of eight goals this season matches that of Rabiu Ali of Kano Pillars.
Both players are now just two goals behind leading scorer Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United.
Emmanuel Ogbole of Kwara United has scored seven goals, Lobi Stars striker Ossy Martins has six goals while four players have netted five goals apiece – Rabiu Abdullahi (Bayelsa United), Joseph Godstime (Niger Tornadoes), Sunday Megwo (Abia Wariors) and Ahmed Musa (Kano Pillars).
