Ex-World Cup star questions Iwobi’s Super Eagles commitment

Alex Iwobi is flying high at Premier League club Fulham, but former World Cup star John Utaka has questioned his commitment to the Super Eagles.

Iwobi was trolled on social media after the Super Eagles failed to win the 2023 AFCON earlier this year.

In between indifferent displays for the Super Eagles, the versatile star has enjoyed red-hot form at his London club, scoring four goals in five Premier League games.

“When you play for Nigeria, you have to give 200% because you are defending the honour of your country,” Utaka said on a radio interview monitored by SCORENigeria

“You have to serve with heart and might, like the old national anthem asked, so that no one can question your commitment.

“Iwobi ought to show more commitment when he comes to the national team.

“He has to carry his consistency at his club to the Super Eagles.”

Former RC Lens and Portsmouth striker Utaka featured at the 2002 and 2010 World Cups.

He won 44 caps and netted six goals for the Super Eagles between 2001 and 2012.

He won the glamourous FA Cup in England as well as the French Ligue 1 championship.
