IFK Goteborg sports director storms Abuja for new Alhassan Yusuf

The sports director of Swedish club IFK Goteborg, Stig Torbjornsen, has said he hopes to discover a new Alhassan Yusuf during a scouting trip to Abuja in the new week.

Alhassan Yusuf started out at IFK Goteborg after he was scouted at the Gothia Cup in Sweden.

The Super Eagles midfielder has since played in the UEFA Champions League with Antwerp and now plies his trade in the MLS in the USA with New England Revolution.

Goteborg only managed to escape relegation from the top Swedish league on the last day of action, just as they did the previous year.

“I’m going to Nigeria and travel around an academy tournament and watch matches and players for a week. Broadly speaking, I don’t know what I will find. It could be ten players who are interesting, it could be zero,” Torbjornsen told Sportbladet

“I look broadly. If I find a promising striker, it could be interesting, a good 6 or a centre-back. All positions, except goalkeeper, at the right age and potential are interesting.”

Torbjörnsen himself is on a contract that expires at the turn of the year.

“We will see what happens in the future,” he told Sportbladet about his future.

IFK Göteborg picked up Torbjörnsen from IFK Norrköping in the spring of 2022
