Flying Eagles championship winner signs first pro deal

Flying Eagles star striker Kparobo Arierhi, whose brace ensured Nigeria retained the WAFU B U20 Championship in Togo, will sign his first professional contract in January with Norwegian club Lillestrom SK.

“We have agreed with the academy in Nigeria on a transfer which means that both (Kparobo and ex-Golden Eaglets defender Tochukwu Ogboji) will become LSK players from January,“ announced sporting director Simon Mesfin.

Kparobo, 17, first trained with Lillestrom in January 2024.

He was the Flying Eagles biggest prospect when they again won the regional championship in Lome and this time at the expense of perennial rivals Ghana.

He netted three goals at the U20 AFCON qualifying tournament – two in the final and the match winner that won Nigeria Group B at the expense of Cote d’Ivoire.

The Beyond Limits Academy striker will now hope to follow in the footsteps of several top Nigerian talents who have left their mark at LSK like Jerome Akor.

Mesfin did not hide the fact that there are many big clubs out there who have already caught the eye of the forward talent who turns 18 in January.

“We have reached an agreement in strong competition with many big clubs in Europe,” he admitted.

“There are still clubs calling his agent and wondering how much LSK will pay for this great talent even before he has made his debut for the club. I have never come across that interest. But he will be allowed to continue his development here and score many goals for LSK before he will be allowed to be sold on.”

The exciting young striker said LSK will be launch pad to playing for a top club in Europe.

“I am very happy to be back here. It’s like a dream for me. I have developed a lot since I was here last,” he said.

“The goal is to become so good that I can eventually play for one of the top clubs in Europe.”
