Taiwo Awoniyi may have been called up again by the Super Eagles, but the boss of his Premier League club has asked the striker to do a lot more.
Awoniyi has struggled this season at Nottingham Forest with no goals to his name and had to be withdrawn by half time when he started in a 4-4-2 formation against Fulham.
Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo said the striker ought to be playing more regularly so as to regain his top form.
“All the strikers need that moment (to score), but T did well (vs Fulham),” he said.
“It’s been a while since he started. He played 45 minutes and created a lot of situations.
“We’re counting on him.
“Now it’s about managing him. Now that he goes to the national team, I hope he plays because what Taiwo needs is competition and to be competing.
“Hopefully, when he return he is another option for us.”
