Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has given conditions that would make him consider taking on the top coaching post on a permanent basis.
The NFF technical director said he will need a long-term contract, patience and support to succeed at the top post.
“The Super Eagles job I’m doing right now, if I were to switch permanently, it’s something I’d need to sit down, reflect, and think deeply about because it’s not a small job,” he told Brila FM
”It will be a tough one. You have to give me long-term contract with patience and clauses in that contract because winning is not guaranteed every week or day.
“You will give me time to tweak the team till I find what I want.”
Eguavoen, who has also headed the U23s and Golden Eaglets, stressed that he may be on his fourth stint as Super Eagles coach, but in the previous three times he was not on the job for more than six months.
“In 2006, I was there for six months, every other time it was two months, two games or three games,” he said.
“Clemens Westerhof was in charge between 1989 and 1994, (Gernot) Rohr was there for six years. They got some time.
“I never got straight two years.”
He therefore said he would need a long-term contract with “many clauses”, patience and support to be a substantive coach of the Super Eagles.
Eguavoen has now been mandated to qualify the country to the 2025 AFCON and he will also oversee the qualification of the home-based Eagles to next year’s CHAN in East Africa.
