Remo Stars back on top, Amuneke’s Heartland suffer third defeat

Today, Remo Stars regained top spot on the NPFL table after they beat defending champions Enugu Rangers, while Heartland FC under coach Emmanuel Amuneke suffered their third defeat at 3SC.

In Ikenne, friends turned rivals once again as Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu took on his close counterpart Daniel Ogunmodede ‘Ijaball’ in what turned out to be a keenly contested battle.

Remo drew first blood after Alex Oyowah started out a beautiful attacking transition, and then finished it off with a fine strike, after a Jide Fatokun assist.

Rangers drew level just five minutes after the restart through a Kenechukwu Agwu spot kick, but it was not enough as Michael Tochukwu put on a fantastic show, netting a solo effort to send Remo Stars top.

The struggles continued for coach Amuneke’s Heartland, as a Samuel Ayanride beauty gave their hosts Shooting Stars a slim victory, their first at the Iconic Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

Finidi George took on his former side Enyimba coached by his former assistant, and he proved his mettle once again, as his side ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of an early Ubong Friday strike, and a brilliant finish from Seiyafa Jackson at the death.

It was an outing to forget for Kano Pillars as they travelled to Umuahia to take on Abia Warriors, who left no stones unturned after they beat their guests 2-0.

In Yenagoa, Kwara United held hosts Bayelsa United to a hard fought draw, ensuring that they remain in the relegation battle.

It was rain of goals in Borno as Plateau United were party spoilers for hosts El Kanemi, in a four-goal thriller.

It was not to be once again for newbies Ikorodu City, as they were edged out once again, at Onikan, by the ‘Solid Miners’ Nasarawa United.

Sunshine Stars got the second away win of the weekend as they spelled more trouble for Akwa United, running away with a 2-1 win, leaving their hosts 15th in the standings.

There was nothing to separate Niger Tornadoes and Bendel Insurance as the ‘Benin Arsenal’ were once again held to another draw, which is now becoming more of a trademark.

Lobi Stars continued in relegation waters as they were walloped 3-0 by Katsina United.
